5/2 that potential Euro 2012 top scorer joins Man Utd in summer

Punters prepared to take the words of Poland coach Franciszek Smuda as gospel could take advantage of some lucrative odds as Ladbrokes are offering 5/2 that Robert Lewandowski signs for Manchester United before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have already targeted Borussia Dortmund for the first of their pre-season signings and now the German champions could witness leading striker Lewandowski hook up again with Shinji Kagawa.

Lewandowski has become hot property after 22 Bundesliga goals last season and his stock could rise further if finding the target with regularity at Euro 2012 for one of the tournament hosts.

However, regardless of how well he does, Smuda insists that three of his squad have already indicated that they will be moving to pastures new from Dortmund this summer.

He said: “Lewandowski is going to Manchester United, Kuba [Jakub Blaszczykowski] also somewhere in England, [Lukasz] Piszczek to Real [Madrid].

“They [the players] have a goal and they want to grow. I base the squad on them.”

Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has previously insisted that Lewandowski would not be allowed to leave for any fee, although he may be more accommodating if Dimitar Berbatov was including in some kind of exchange package.

If Smuda’s statement is true then Dortmund face a difficult summer and there are grounds to believe that Manchester United will not stop at just Kagawa and Lewandowski, with defender Mats Hummels another target.

But Lewandowski’s initial concerns will revolve around Euro 2012 and helping Poland make a good impression at the tournament.

He is 20/1 in the Euro 2012 odds to win the Golden Boot, while 7/5 looks reasonable value that they progress through the group stages and are eliminated in the quarter finals.
