Danish victory over Holland turns Group B on it’s head

| 10.06.2012

Group B began to take shape yesterday as Denmark scored an unexpected win against the wasteful Dutch.

The Danes were tipped not to win a game in the ’group of death’, but they ran out 1-0 victors against the Netherlands thanks to a strike from Brondby forward Michael Krohn-Dehli.

This shock scoreline sees Demark installed as second favourites to qualify for the quarters priced at 5/6, whilst they are 9/2 to do the seemingly impossible and top their group.

Defeat for Holland means that they are a massive 7/1 to qualify top of the group.

The firepower at their disposal did little to break down a resolute Danish back four but it is highly unlikely that a team possessing so much quality will not click into gear at some point, and they look good value at 2/1 to make the next stage.

However, they will have to beat the two other so-called big teams in the group to guarantee themselves a chance of making the quarter-final.

The headline match in this round of games saw the Germans scrape past Portugal with a 1-0 win courtesy of the head of Bayern Munich man Mario Gomez.

The defeat for the Portuguese means they look to have very little chance of finishing at the summit of the group and their 14/1 price reflects that.

Despite this, they, maybe even more so than Holland, are a good bet to qualify for the last eight at 2/1.

Unlike Bert Van Marwijk’s side, Portugal still have to face Denmark, and if they perform well they will be expected to take three points, making their game against the Dutch likely to be the decider in what looks set to be a riveting contest.

The ever-efficient Germans are the clear favourites to win the group at 1/3.

They are 1/12 just to qualify and it would be a real shock were they not to acquire the points needed to make it into the knockout stages.
