Rodgers to begin Liverpool tenure with addition of Swansea stars

After his appointment at Liverpool yesterday, Brendan Rodgers has already begun to draw up a shortlist of transfer targets, with several of his former Swansea charges high on his wishlist.

Rodgers is thought to have a very serious interest in three players he managed last term, two of which also played a big part in the Swans’ promotion to the Premier League the campaign before.

Gylfi Sigurdsson is believed to be Rodgers’ top priority signing though, after a tremendous loan spell in the second half of last season at the Liberty Stadium.

Sigurdsson was thought to be close to securing a permanent move to Wales, but now instead appears primed to follow Rodgers to Anfield, in a deal worth £6.8million to parent club Hoffenheim.

The Icelandic midfielder drew admiring glances from the likes of Manchester United last term, after scoring seven times in 18 appearances, and being named February’s Premier League player of the month.

Other priority signings for Rodgers come in the form of Ashley Williams and Scott Sinclair meanwhile, who have been integral to the rise in stature of Swansea over the past two seasons.

Williams, captain of the Swans, has missed just one league game in four seasons in Wales, underlining his integrity to the side.

After proving more than capable at Premier League level last term, he could prove a terrific value signing for around £5million.

Sinclair meanwhile, a former Chelsea trainee, has finally demonstrated Premier League credentials over the course of the last season when given the chance under Rodgers.

He credits the new Liverpool manager with the revival of his career, and would welcome the chance to link up with him again at Anfield.

The winger would likely be available for around £5million, and could complete a trio of players that follow Rodgers to Merseyside.
