Murray set to serve up a winner for patient patriotic punters

ANDY MURRAY will deliver patriotic punters a long overdue windfall should he win Wimbledon, according to Ladbrokes.

The bookies report that Murray has finally been taken into the hearts of the British betting public following the disappointment for those who backed England to do the business in the European Championships.

The money for Murray suggests that he’s now seen as the preferred patriotic punt this summer as backers all over Britain unite and rally round to support the 13/8 underdog.

Murray’s match is expected to break tennis betting records with up to 20,000 in-play bets set to be struck per set.

A gamble is also developing on Murray to win this year’s Sports Personality of the Year award as eagle-eyed punters have taken the 7/4 on offer, pushing his price into 13/8.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “After the Three Lions disappointed again the patriotic punt is now firmly focused on Murray. If he lands the money we expect him to become the preferred summer gamble as our footballers continue to flounder.”

He added: “We’re expecting in-play betting records to be broken and we’ve drafted in extra staff to cope with the volume. Murray dropping the first set but roaring back to victory is our worst case scenario.”
