Tottenham Hotspur enter race to sign Chelsea target Hulk

Tottenham Hotspur may be resigned to losing midfielder Luka Modric to Real Madrid this summer, but there are plenty of reasons for Spurs fans to remain positive – not least the latest rumours surrounding the arrival of Hulk.

According to the Daily Mail, new Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is keen on once again linking up with the Brazilian striker.

Villas-Boas worked with the 25-year-old during his brief but hugely successful spell as Porto boss and believes he can see off the attentions of Chelsea with the promise of more regular first team football.

Tottenham are somewhat lacking in the striking department with Jermain Defoe struggling to get regular football last term and Emmanuel Adebayor yet to sign a permanent deal, with Lokomotiv Moscow sniffing around the Manchester City man.

The loss of Modric would be a huge blow to Spurs but Hulk’s power and pace could help Spurs once again push for a top four finish. The north London side are currently not fancied to repeat the feat of last season and are joint fifth favourites with Liverpool at 19/10 to end up back in the top four.

Whether Spurs can match Porto’s asking price of more than £30million is another matter though.

Meanwhile, Danny Rose also looks likely to be leaving Spurs this summer.

The midfielder is currently on duty with Team GB at the Olympics and admits he’s unlikely to get much of an opportunity to impress Villas-Boas this season.

Speaking to Yahoo, Rose said: “I do want to impress the new manager at the Games, but at the same time, it had been agreed by Spurs that I could go on a season-long loan to the Premier League, but that was before Redknapp got sacked. I don’t know what’s going to happen now.”
