Championship Accumulator: Get 25/1 on our opening day selections

| 17.08.2012

The Championship is back this weekend and our 25/1 shot fourfold could see you start the season in the money.

The first pick is Tony Mowbray’s promotion prospects, Middlesbrough, who make the trip to south Yorkshire to take on Barnsley. Boro look great value at 5/4 given the hammering they dished out on their last visit to Oakwell.

It finished 3-1 that day though, in reality, it could have been five or six. Boro’s season began with a nine game unbeaten run last term and Keith Hill’s desire to have his teams get the ball down and pass it about will be perfect for Middlesbrough to take advantage of.

What’s more is that Boro’s Marvin Emnes looks back in form following his summer break. The Dutch striker was on fire in the early months of the last campaign, netting eight in nine – including one in the 3-1 defeat of Barnsley – and got off the mark at Bury in the Capital One Cup on Saturday.

5/6 for Brian O’Driscoll to make a winning start at home to Bristol City is another bet with the potential for excellent value.

Nottingham Forest – the latest English club to profit from Middle Eastern investment – hadn’t lost to Bristol City since 1974 prior to last season’s loss at the City Ground.

Simon Cox brings goals to their squad and defenders like Greg Halford instil solidity. Plus, Bristol City were beaten at home by Gillingham with a team close to full strength in midweek so there could well be trouble afoot at Forest.

Steve Bruce will be looking to his players to start strongly at home against fellow playoff hopefuls, Brighton.

Hull are 6/5 to get the win at the KC Stadium and their new striker Robert Proschwitz, a £2.5 million signing from SC Paderborn, is who they will expect to make it happen.

German Proschwitz netted 17 goals in 33 appearances last year, including a debut goal against Hansa Rostock, which made him the second tier of the Bundesliga’s joint-top scorer.

If he can bring this form with him to England, the 25-year-old could really make waves in the Championship and he has the ability to put Brighton to the sword on Saturday.

Our final selection is the longest price of the four – Blackpool to win at Millwall, which can be backed at 7/4.

Ian Holloway’s Tangerine Army will consider themselves unfortunate not to be gearing up for life back in the Premier League after outplaying West Ham for the majority of a playoff final which they ultimately lost, but the run that got them to Wembley was impressive, indeed.

They lost just the one game since mid-March as they kicked all other playoff contenders to the curb; a run which spanned 12 games and amassed 23 goals.

If they can transfer that form into the new campaign then relegation material, Millwall, don’t stand much chance of kicking this season off with anything but defeat.
