McIlroy being backed to win second major at PGA Championship

Published:

Rory McIlroy has been returning to some kind of form of late and punters are backing him at 20/1 to win the PGA Championship.

McIlroy went through a dire period earlier this year on the PGA Tour when missing the cut in three of five tournaments and finishing down in 60th in another.

But four solid rounds at the Bridgestone Invitational helped him finish in a tie for fifth and punters are expecting him to carry this form with him to Kiawah Island for the final major of the year.

Meanwhile, he has now finished in the top ten in all of his last three starts.

Ladbrokes are already facing a six-figure payout if McIlroy lands a second major when playing at the Ocean Course in South Carolina and his wedge play that particularly stood out in the Bridgestone will be pivotal to his chances.

McIlroy ranked second in the tournament for hitting greens in regulation and his ability to drive long from the tee will also be an asset on what will be the longest course in major championship history.

Furthermore, McIlroy has secured at least one top-ten major finish in each of his previous three years on tour.

This year has been one to forget to date in terms of majors with his tied 40th his best result in the Masters and so the PGA Championship represents the chance to continue this record.

He has also finished in the top three of the PGA Championship in two of his three starts in the major.

Alternative betting options for McIlroy include the 5/6 that he ends the PGA Championship as the top Irishman, 6/1 that he goes better and is top European and 4/1 that he finishes in the top five of this major again.
