Sunderland backed to rock Gunners in Premier League opener

SUNDERLAND HAVE been backed to add to the misery at the Emirates according to Ladbrokes.

As fans celebrate the excitement of the return of the weekend coupon, Sunderland are the subject of significant support to upset Arsenal at 7/1 while the home side remain friendless at 2/5.

Robin Van Persie is 8/1 to outscore his old team entirely providing he starts against Everton on Monday night and the firm also report interest in Wenger to be the first Premier League boss to leave at 33/1.

Perhaps the most telling set of odds however relate to Arsenal’s price to win any major trophy. They are now the biggest price to win any trophy (11/4) since the turn of the century with odds of just 1/4 offered that they endure another drought.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “Punters have been quick to back Sunderland to rub more salt in Arsenal’s wounds. Of all the outsiders this weekend they are the best backed by far.”

He added: “We’ve not known odds this big about Arsenal winning a trophy for years . The odds suggest a top four finish is about all they can hope for again.”
