Beauty Parlour has the look of a winner on Cambridgeshire day

Published:

Two Group One contests and the Cambridgeshire help make up a major day’s racing at Newmarket and there is a good-looking opportunity for Beauty Parlour in the Sun Chariot Stakes.

Meanwhile, Prince Of Johanne is bidding to make a successful defence of the Cambridgeshire crown he gained 12 months ago.

13:55 Newmarket – Al Waab @ 5/1

The Royal Lodge was won by Frankel in 2010 and although finding a horse this good is unlikely this year, there are some talented two-year-olds in the field.

This could end up between Steeler and Al Waab in a tight finish, as both tend to finish quickly after taking a while to hit top speed.

Al Waab ran the talented Havana Gold close on his only previous start at 1m and is given the slight preference.

14:25 Newmarket – Maureen @ 9/4

Maureen would still be unbeaten if not getting some serious bad luck in running in the Cherry Hinton Stakes, but has since opened her Group-level account at Ascot.

Richard Hannon has given her the last two months off and has been pleased with Maureen’s progress in this period, helping to make her the one to beat.

Sendmylovetorose was the horse that beat Maureen in the Cherry Hinton and would come into the reckoning again if the ground is soft at Newmarket.

Rosdhu Queen is still unbeaten, but the form of her Lowther Stakes triumph does not look the strongest, while there are doubts regarding the stamina of the also unbeaten Winning Express.

15:00 Newmarket – Beauty Parlour @ 7/4

Beauty Parlour won four from four over the Sun Chariot Stakes distance of 1m before going for him too early over 1m2f in France last time.

Back over her ideal trip, she is hard to oppose.

Elusive Kate ran more than creditably against the colts last time and rates as the big danger now back against her own sex.

15:40 Newmarket – Prince Of Johanne @ 25/1

Prince Of Johanne won the Cambridgeshire last year and has to have decent claims again off 1lb less than when landing the Royal Hunt Cup earlier this season after taking over the claim of jockey Brendan Powell

His last run at York can also be forgiven after encountering trouble in running.

Credit Swap is another former Cambridgeshire winner and is interesting on his first start on the Flat in two years, while Swiftly Done warrants some each-way consideration.
