Expect Man City to make surprise big signing to replace De Jong

Javi Garcia has not been heavily linked with Manchester City in this transfer window, but he appears to be the leading priority on deadline day from Benfica.

Although Jack Rodwell has already arrived in the transfer window from Everton, Nigel De Jong’s departure to AC Milan means that further reinforcements are needed.

De Jong only had a year left on his contract at the Etihad and so a move to the Italian giants appears best for both parties.

Man City look almost guaranteed to bring in three new faces on deadline day, with Richard Wright becoming third choice goalkeeper and Scott Sinclair arriving from Swansea.

The third is a defensive swap deal involving Stefan Savic and Fiorentina’s Matija Nastasic, who has been likened to Nemanja Vidic in some quarters.

Talks have been ongoing with Benfica for Garcia, with the big stumbling block relating to the transfer fee.

Benfica are determined to hold out for the midfielder’s buy-out clause of £25m, with City previously refusing to pay this sum.

However, there are high hopes that an agreement will be reached.

Meanwhile, there is the suggestion that Yann M’Vila is being touted as the back-up option should the Garcia chats fall through.

M’Vila would most resemble De Jong and has possibly been the most talked about player in the whole transfer window, as he has previously been heavily linked with Arsenal and lesser so with Tottenham.
