QPR v Chelsea: Game to come too soon for R’s new team

Published:

Chelsea make the short journey across west London to face fellow big spenders QPR in a match where on and off the field ugliness have averted attention from the beautiful game.

The Blues have started the season in brilliant form with three wins from three. This makes their price of 4/5 to make it four against a team languishing on one point from nine a very attractive prospect.

Roberto Di Matteo’s men have triumphed in four of the last five renewals and, although the R’s freshly assembled unit have had some precious bonding time over the international break, it will be a tough task for the hosts to remain unscathed after what promises to be a bruising encounter.

Last season’s 1-0 win is more memorable for what happened in it’s aftermath than for QPR rocking the Chelsea boat, but their task was made considerably easier by the visitor’s reduction to nine men.

They would need a similar touch of good fortune if they are to get anything from this one, as their 7/2 pricing suggests.

Chelsea avenged this upset by doling out a 6-1 massacre at Stamford Bridge, but this was the first time in five meetings that both teams got on the scoresheet in the same game. 11/10 says that normal service will be resumed and either one or no side manages to notch at Loftus Road.

The European champions are yet to beat a London rival in the league under Di Matteo, drawing three successive derbies. For this run to continue and this tussle to end in stalemate, Ladbrokes are offering 5/2.

Optimistic QPR fans envisaging lightning striking Chelsea twice can cover their bases with a decent looking bet of 2/1 for a Hoops win or draw with two goals or fewer scored in the game.
