Trainer Ryan has two big each-way shouts in the Ayr Gold Cup

| 22.09.2012

Heavy conditions for the Ayr Gold Cup will not suit many of the entrants, but it does certainly make Pintura stand out as an each-way option at 16/1.

Trainer Kevin Ryan insists that the horse can handle the most bottomless of ground and he has not been out of the first four in his last five starts this season.

What is most notable is that he has not finished outside of the first two in the four of these starts on a soft surface.

Horses drawn in the middle of the course have also enjoyed a solid win percentage in the Ayr Gold Cup and therefore Pintura’s connections should not be disappointed with stall nine.

The one negative relating to Pintura is whether he has the speed to be a contender over 6f, on what will be his first start at the trip since 2009.

He has been running mainly over 1m, but trainer Ryan insists that Pintura is “not a slow horse”, while the heavy conditions will prevent some of the speedier types from displaying their top speed.

Furthermore, the boggy ground will make this more of a stamina test than an out and out speed test and so Pintura’s season over longer distances may prove an advantage.

Ryan has four horses entered in the Ayr Gold Cup and Captain Ramius is another with seeming each-way credentials at 33/1.

He has remained on the same official mark of 100 despite credible efforts in both the Banbury and Great St Wilfrid handicaps when finishing in the top five.

Captain Ramius also has form on soft ground and can contend if getting to the front and dictating.
