B’burn v Sheff Wed: Goals scarce for these out of form sides

Published:

Blackburn remain without a manager, yet they are an excellent price to beat a struggling Sheffield Wednesday side who have been at the epicentre of off-the-field controversy all week.

Rovers are 4/5 to pick up the win over a team who have lost six of their last eight Championship games.

The Blackburn wheels have come off somewhat after a Lukas Jutkiewicz brace and a Middlesbrough master-class spelt the end of Steve Kean’s tumultuous reign; they’re without a win in the four games that followed.

Under 2.5 goals has been a staple in the games Rovers have endured since Kean’s departure and the 11/10 that says it happens again here is well-worth a few quid, especially when you consider that the Owls will be looking to keep things tight in Lancashire.

Four of Dave Jones’ side’s last five in all competitions produced this result also, so expect a cagey one at Ewood Park here.

However, their two previous trips to the north west have yielded six goals – a 4-2 win at Oldham in the Capital One Cup and a 3-3 draw with Burnley – so it could be the case that Jones lets his charges off the leash in a bid to end their barren run of wins. It’s 10/1 for there to be exactly six goals scored in this one, while over 5.5 goals pays out at 8’s.

Based on recent results, the best bet in this one is the draw at 11/5. Three of Rovers’ last four have finished level, while two of the Owls’ last three went the same way. Combining these five draws, three have ended 1-1 and for that outcome to rear its head once more pays out at 6/1.
