Berg backed for Blackburn and a better bet than Redknapp

Henning Berg and Harry Redknapp are the two big movers in the market to be next Blackburn manager following speculation that the duo are preparing for interviews at Ewood Park.

Both have shortened to 6/1 in the market and of the pair former Rovers defender Berg must be the most likely to be appointed.

Sources are suggesting that Redknapp is interested in taking charge and he has shown an ability before to improve potentially under-achieving clubs, like at Portsmouth and Tottenham.

There is clearly money within Blackburn, although the Venky Group have not been particularly willing to spend much since taking over.

This was maybe due to a lack of belief in Steve Kean and Redknapp would almost certainly demand heavy January investment if he were to take over.

However, given how settled he is at Sandbanks on the south coast, there is little chance of him upping sticks and a daily commute to Blackburn is a major commitment, especially for a 65-year-old.

Meanwhile, although Venky’s want success, accepting the expected hefty financial demands of Redknapp is still a bit of a punt and represents a large commitment.

Venky’s have attempted to lure former fan favourites and ex-players to the club previously, with Tim Sherwood and Billy McKinley among the initial names linked with the vacancy.

Berg is another after two stints with the club, totalling up to almost 200 appearances, and he has managerial experience from spells at Lyn and Lillestrom in Scandinavia, even if success in these positions was limited.

Ian Holloway remains the favourite to leave Blackpool for Blackburn at 8/13.
