Bjorn to down fellow Ryder Cup members to win Alfred Dunhill

| 04.10.2012

Three of Europe’s Ryder Cup winners and Dustin Johnson from the defeated US team are among the players teeing it up in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

However, it is a dual former Ryder Cup victor and this year’s vice captain, that may prove the best to follow in Scotland.

Thomas Bjorn is 50/1 to win the Alfred Dunhill and backing him with Ladbrokes may prove especially shrewd as the top six places are being paid each-way.

Martin Kaymer, Paul Lawrie and Peter Hanson will all be given a rousing reception following their exploits at Medinah, particularly with the former of these holing the winning putt in the singles.

Some may say that the after-partying that would have gone on in the European camp will be a negative here, with less time almost certainly spent on the practice range.

But Kaymer showed in 2010 that this does not necessarily have a negative impact by winning the Alfred Dunhill just days after helping Europe claim the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor.

He is 16/1 here.

Bjorn is mainly fancied because of his resurgence of form in the past 18 months and his prior record on links courses.

The Dane has twice finished in the top four at the Open when played at Royal St Georges, while he claimed the Johnny Walker Championship at Gleneagles last year.

This marked one of three 2011 European Tour successes for Bjorn and he has previous in this event, having finished in 11th two years ago.

Loluis Oosthuizen heads the betting for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at 12/1, with Padraig Harrington, Ernie Els and Charl Schwartzel among the other bigger names in the field.
