King of Stats: all the numbers for Capital One Cup fourth round

Published:

The fourth round of the Capital One Cup is the time where some clubs will begin to take the competition seriously as they become ever closer to victory.

Here are some statistics that may help land some winning Capital One Cup bets.

13 – The number of cup games since Aston Villa were last eliminated by a lower-league club, dating back to a 1-0 Carling Cup defeat to QPR in 2008. Aston Villa are 23/20 to win at League One Swindon, 34 places below them in the football pyramid.

2 – Sunderland have already knocked out two teams beginning with M in the competition this season, beating Morecambe and MK Dons 2-0. It is 13/2 that Middlesbrough are the latest to be discarded 2-0.

6 – The number of times in the last two seasons that a fourth round tie has been won by at least three goals. With Swansea without their first choice goalkeeper and both full-backs Liverpool could run riot at Anfield. Liverpool are 10/3 to overcome a two-goal handicap when hosting Swansea.

14 – Reading have been on target in their last 14 games in the League Cup, while Arsenal have conceded in nine of their last ten fixtures in all competitions. Reading are 2/5 to score at least once against Arsenal in normal time.

9 – No more than one goal has separated the two clubs in nine of their last 11 meetings. It is 3/1 that Wigan beat Bradford in this one by exactly one goal.

17 – The number of years since Norwich last eliminated a Premier League team from this competition, while Spurs are unbeaten on seven trips to Carrow Road dating back to 1991. Tottenham are 5/6 to beat Norwich and move into the quarter finals.

5 – In five of the last ten years only one fourth round game has gone to extra time. Sunderland v Middlesbrough is perhaps the most likely to be level after 90 minutes this time and the draw can be backed 13/5.

4 – Javier Hernandez has scored in four of his last five meetings with Chelsea and is primed to start in this cup encounter. Hernandez is 8/1 to open the scoring at Stamford Bridge.
