Making songs own not enough for well-backed James to win X Factor

| 02.10.2012

James Arthur is the big climber in the X Factor betting after confirming his spot on the live shows as one of Nicole Scherzinger’s acts in the boys category.

Ella Henderson still remains the shortest-priced favourite ever ahead of the live shows at 11/8, but James has been backed into 7/1 following the judges house stage.

He almost brought Nicole to tears with his performance of Bonnie Raitt’s ‘I Can’t Make You Love Me’ and his raw emotion went down well.

Meanwhile, watchers of the Xtra Factor would have seen James have a little more fun and show a bit more personality when the programme showed a rendition of LMFAO’s ‘Sexy And I Know It’, which was also performed in Dubai.

The good points for James is that he seems adept at making songs his own and this tends to be critical on the live shows, while the rawness in his voice makes him stand out from the other acts.

However, there will be some doubters in terms of whether he has the appearance of an X Factor winner and it will be interesting to see how the fashion department make him look for the first live show.

Furthermore, the X Factor may have focused too much on James’ back story already to make him a winner, as this can often be used later in the series to attract votes.

Also at 7/1 in the early X Factor odds is James’ rival in the boys category Jahmene Douglas, although he has struggled to hit the heights of his first audition and may struggle in certain genres of music.

On the drift in the betting between the early auditions and judges houses are both Lucy Spraggan and Carolynne Poole, who have lengthened from single-figure prices to 12/1.
