Price can force Harrison into a very early boxing retirement

| 11.10.2012

Audley Harrison has vowed to retire from boxing should he lose to David Price and at 11/2 for victory, the 40-year-old should prepare to hang up his gloves.

Price is 1/9 to overcome Great Britain’s 2000 Olympic gold medallist, and with an unblemished record from 13 fights thus far, he looks nailed on to do so.

The 29-year-old Liverpudlian has home advantage at the Echo Arena, and better value can be found in Price disposing of Harrison in the early stages of the fight.

It is 9/4 about Price emerging triumphant within the first three rounds, and that looks a terrific bet, considering two of Harrison’s last three defeats came in that time period.

With both of those losses occurring in the third round too, Price looks a tempting proposition to score a third round knockout at 7/1.

He has achieved two round-three knockouts in the past, making that the round in which he has emerged victorious in second-most often, behind the fight opener.

Therefore, some could be attracted by the 9/1 odds about Price winning in the first round, whilst an alternative special market is also available regarding this fight.

Punters can have 25/1 about Price knocking out Harrison within the first minute, whilst Harrison is a monster 200/1 to cause the stoppage within 60 seconds.

Meanwhile, those who feel Harrison can hold his own to some extent with Price, may entertain the 5/1 odds about a points win for the hometown fighter.

That bet should be approached with caution however, considering that 11 of Price’s 13 professional victories have come via knockout.

The fight failing to go the distance is therefore understandably short at 1/6, with a stoppage seemingly deemed certain by Ladbrokes.

And even at 1/4, punters could do a lot worse than backing Price to win by knockout or disqualification on Saturday night.
