Spurs’ Dawson great value at 2/1 to be signed by Redknapp

Harry Redknapp hasn’t even been in his new job for a week yet, but the rumours about who he’ll sign in January have already started, in fact, they started before he’d even been given the job.

Redknapp is a renowned wheeler dealer (just don’t call him that to his face) but it doesn’t look like he’ll have to try very hard to get his alleged number one target – Tottenham Hotspur defender Michael Dawson.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas was trying his best to offload the England international in the summer, but the centre-half was unwilling to leave White Hart Lane, preferring to stay and fight for his place.

However, the 29-year-old has made just one start in the Premier League this season – in their 3-1 victory over West Ham United at the weekend – and the chance for regular football with his former boss should be too good an opportunity to turn down.

The 2/1 looks a pretty meaty price considering he’s also the only defender on the current shortlist of potential signings and QPR desperately need to improve at the back.

They’ve conceded an average of two goals in every league game this season, with only Southampton’s record-breakingly bad start stopping them having the worst defensive record in the division.

It would also fit in nicely with Redknapp’s habit of buying players he’s worked with before. Of all the current players priced-up by Ladbrokes, the only player Redknapp hasn’t worked with is David Beckham (and even he trained with Spurs while Redknapp was there).

Beckham is second in the betting at 3/1 and may also be worth a punt. The LA Galaxy star has stated he’ll be leaving Los Angeles and admits he’s looking for “one last challenge” – and what could be more of a challenge than keeping QPR in the Premier League?

Elsewhere, Joe Cole is 7/2 to head back to London, while Spurs’ current strike force of Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe are 12/1 and 20/1 respectively to make the short journey to Loftus Road.
