Everton v Wigan: Festive spoils to be shared

Published:

It’s hard to imagine two more likeable sides at the moment than Everton and Wigan.

The Toffees are so likeable that even Marouane Fellaini’s discretions against Stoke saw him banned for just three games when everything was pointing at a far longer spell out of action.

Meanwhile, Wigan keep making all the right noises about playing attractive football and not bankrupting themselves – not to mention the fact that Roberto Martinez seems like a thoroughly decent chap – but remain unable to upset anyone of significance by remaining around the relegation places.

Nobody looks set to end this clash upset either with everything pointing to these sides sharing the points this Boxing Day.

Everton may have only tasted defeat twice this season but they have found wins almost as hard to come by, winning just seven of their opening 18 games of the season.

The win will be even harder to come by for Everton thanks to the suspension of Fellaini for his headbutt on Ryan Shawcross. He’s out for this game and his bustling performances that garnered him eight goals in the first half of the season will be sorely missed.

They will still remain a solid unit and their recent home records points to a tough afternoon for Wigan. The Toffees have drawn three of their previous five games at Goodison and haven’t lost any league game there since a 1-0 loss against an in-form Arsenal back in March.

With Wigan failing to win any of their previous three away games (and only scoring one in the process), backing the fourth draw in five meetings between these sides looks the bet to take on at a very attractive 16/5.
