Tottenham v Swansea: Spurs win hard to oppose against tired Swans

Published:

Tottenham will hope to erase the memory of their late surrender at Everton with a win over Swansea at White Hart Lane.

Spurs conceded twice in two minutes as the clocked ticked down at Goodison to give up all three points, but the hosts are odds-on favourites at 8/15 to bounce back with a win over the Swans.

It was looking like another impressive performance for Andre Villas-Boas’ side, as they led 1-0 over a strong Everton team playing on their own patch going into the last five minutes.

But the north Londoners collapsed when it mattered most, as Steven Pienaar then Nikica Jelavic struck to break their run of four straight wins in all competitions.

A draw in this game seems unlikely at 11/4, with Spurs having taken a point just twice from 16 league games so far and Swansea ending in a stalemate only once in seven Premier League away days.

Swansea’s last league fixture was an unexpected 4-3 defeat to Norwich on home soil, their first loss in seven domestic matches. But they are priced at 9/2 to get back to winning ways at Tottenham.

A stunning 2-0 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates for Michael Laudrup’s team had the Gunners reeling, and although they were beaten by Norwich, the Welsh side made the last four of the Capital One Cup with a narrow 1-0 win over Middlesbrough in midweek.

That victory was far from convincing however, as the hosts required a late own goal from the Championship outfit to progress.

With the visitors small squad beginning to get stretched going ahead of the busy Christmas period, Tottenham could take full advantage and backing the home side at 1/4 in the draw no bet market looks assured.

Tottenham have lost to Chelsea and Wigan at the Lane this term, but won their last two home league games against battlers West Ham and a resurgent Liverpool side.

The Lilywhites have a long history of goal-heavy games against Swansea, crashing 20 past the Swans in just three homes games between 1931 and 1935.

In modern times Spurs have maintained that dominance, winning 3-1 at White Hart Lane last season. Tottenham to win and over 2.5 goals to be scored in match is available at 5/4.

For the goalscorer betting, Emmanuel Adebayor bagged two during Spurs’ win over Swansea in April and the Togolese striker is priced at 15/8 to score in a Tottenham win here.

Jermain Defoe has been amongst the goals regularly this season with nine league strikes to his name, and he could find the net first at 9/2.

For the away team, £2m summer signing Michu has been nothing short of a revelation as a forward for Swansea after pushing up from midfield, with the Spaniard leading the league top scorers chart with 12 strikes.

Michu is one goal shy of having produced half of his team’s entire league haul, and is 2/1 to score anytime against Tottenham.
