African Cup of Nations: Togo and Tunisia to give us goals

Published:

The final round of African Cup of Nations group games has thrown up what’s sure to be a tense affair when Togo take on Tunisia. The winner advances to the quarter finals, but the loser is guaranteed the Weakest Link treatment – they leave with nothing.

Togo v Tunisia

Both sides have been beaten by the Ivory Coast and both have recorded wins over Algeria and this dog-eat-dog situation is the by-product.

Togo have been the more impressive of the two and only require a draw (priced at 11/5) to progress. But resting on your laurels is a dangerous game and it would be a surprise to see Didier Six’s men playing for a point from the off.

With Tunisia having to go all guns blazing to remain in the competition, backing both teams to score has to be the way to go here. It pays out at 10/11 which, in this market, is very generous indeed and would have copped in three of Togo’s last four outings to boot.

Algeria v Ivory Coast

With the Ivorians’ quarter-final spot already assured, there’s a chance they could take it easy against Algeria. Though, given the hapless nature in which the Fennec Foxes lost their previous two games, an Ivory Coast second string is still more than capable of ensuring they go home empty-handed.

The North African outfit have not so much as managed a goal in any of their previous four matches though their opponents, in contrast, are flying. The Elephants have ran in five straight wins and the pre-tournament favourites are certainly justifying all the hype surrounding their chances. Of these five wins, they’ve bagged at least three goals in four of them and this makes the 11/10 on offer for there to be over 2.5 goals here well worth a punt.

The correct score market holds some decent value on this clash too. A 3-0 win for the Ivorians – there’s been over 2.5 goals scored in each of the four meetings between the two – pays nicely at 11’s, while a 4-0 trouncing can be backed at 22/1.
