Bolton v QPR: Rangers to be frustrated at the Reebok again

| 23.01.2013

The last time Queens Park Rangers were at the Reebok Stadium they were left cursing the officials, but this time around it could be the opposition that are the problem.

Seventeen months after an infamous Premier League match which featured a header from Clint Hill that wasn’t awarded as a goal despite almost brushing the back of the net, Rangers face Bolton Wanderers in a Championship contest which could define early season ambitions.

Hill’s unrewarded header contributed to a 2-1 defeat which ensures that the Rs are now without a win in seven contests against the Trotters, losing six of them.

But more importantly, it is Bolton’s recent home record which makes them strong 8/5 favourites for this Saturday’s early kick-off in the Championship.

The Trotters are unbeaten in 12 at the Reebok Stadium, a run which includes nine wins and stretches back to Boxing Day last year.

Boss Dougie Freedman will be desperate for his side to take some of this solid form onto the road, which they would have hit hard following last weekend’s disappointing 3-0 loss at early season pace-setters Nottingham Forest.

But on Saturday they are playing host to a team who have had their own recent troubles away from home.

Admittedly they have been facing teams the calibre of Aston Villa, Everton and Liverpool, but Harry Redknapp’s QPR have now won just one in seven competitive matches away from Loftus Road.

That run makes their own price of 8/5 for the victory look somewhat on the short side.

Indeed, those who fancy a repeat of the Bolton’s 2012 victory can back a 2-1 home win at 10/1, an outcome much more likely than the goal-shy Hill opening the scoring for real this time, which is rightly a 33/1 shot.
