La Galaxy favourites for Lampard, but Chelsea stay expected for now

Frank Lampard may still be waiting to begin talks over remaining at Chelsea beyond the end of this season, but based on the betting, the chances of him leaving Stamford Bridge in January have diminished.

After scoring both goals in the 2-1 victory over Everton that saw Chelsea leapfrog Tottenham back into third in the table, Lampard answered “no” when asked if he had sat down with club officials to discuss his future.

Despite this, Lampard is now 9/2 (from 5/6) to leave Chelsea this month.

The 34-year-old has only made six Premier League starts for Chelsea this season, but they are unbeaten in this period and have won on five occasions.

Furthermore, they have won 10 of the 11 top-flight fixtures that he has appeared in this season, while they have taken just seven points from the eight games that he has been unavailable.

LA Galaxy have long been touted as one of the clubs interested in signing Lampard and they remain favourites to be his next club after Chelsea.

The Galaxy have won the MLS Cup for the past two seasons and reports suggest they would be willing to offer Lampard the same wage packet that was previously earned by David Beckham before his recent departure.

This could be as much as £4m a year before merchandise sales and it is 6/4 that Lampards heads to LA Galaxy next, where rumours are that former Chelsea teammate Carlo Cudicini has just signed.

Another MLS team come next in the betting with a switch to the New York Red Bulls priced at 6/1.

If he wishes to stay in London, 7/1 is not the worst price that he joins up with uncle Harry Redknapp at QPR, while it is 25/1 that he returns to West Ham, the club where he started his career.
