Ideal Spurs replacement for Adebayor open to summer move
Published:Christian Benteke’s agent has intimated that the Belgian striker could well leave Aston Villa this summer and he could be a readymade replacement for Emmanuel Adebayor, who is becoming a growing source of frustration to Tottenham supporters.
Adebayor enjoyed a productive spell on loan at White Hart Lane last season, scoring 18 goals in all competitions to help make a switch from Real Madrid permanent.
However, his goal tally has substantially dropped in the current campaign, finding the net just three times.
The fact that Adebayor started the season injured may have played some role in the change of fortunes, while Andre Villas-Boas plays a more defensive style than Harry Redknapp, which may less suit the Togo frontman.
One of the main problems for fans is Adebayor’s perceived lack of desire and even if service into him is not the best, he should be working harder.
The service to Benteke this season has arguably been no better at Aston Villa, but the 22-year-old has still contributed 15 goals to give the club a chance of avoiding relegation, for which they can be backed at 10/11.
Eris Kismet has stated that his client could leave Villa at the end of the season if the deal was right for all parties concerned and Benteke has the attributes that could make him a success at Tottenham.
He has scored all types of goals this season, conjuring up something out of nothing as he did against West Brom, powering in headers like at Everton or keeping his composure in a one-on-one situation to help defeat Swansea.
Tottenham have notoriously not been a spending club, but Villa would arguably want to double their money at least on Benteke, which would mean an offer in the region of £14m.
Adebayor does still have three months to up his game at Spurs and first-team opportunities should arrive with Jermain Defoe injured. Tottenham are 4/5 to finish in the top four and firing the goals to help this eventuality would boost his chances of a future at the club.
But if things continue in the same manner, Villas-Boas may decide to cut his losses.
