Progress made as Lampard may stay with Chelsea after all

Frank Lampard’s second-half involvement for England against Brazil was his 14th appearance since December 23rd and he marked the occasion with his ninth goal in this period.

Meanwhile, in his 17 appearances for Chelsea since coming back from injury, he has netted 10 times and these goals are sure to prove highly valuable as a stuttering Blues continuing to hang on to third spot in the Premier League standings.

For many, it was staggering as to why Roman Abramovich was refusing to offer Lampard a contract extension and was prepared to let the 34-year-old leave in the summer for free.

However, it now seems that Abramovich has had a change of heart and wants to keep Lampard at Stamford Bridge for another year.

Early talks are said to be progressing well and there is a strong possibility that he will not only celebrate a 13th year at the club, but also move to the top of Chelsea’s all-time scoring chart.

He currently sits five goals adrift of Bobby Tambling.

It is now 2/1 that Lampard ends his career with Chelsea and 7/2 that he opts to retire at the end of the season in which his one-year extension would end.

Meanwhile, assuming that Lampard does sign on for another year, he is expected to have another big role to play in Chelsea’s campaign.

He is 8/11 to feature, either as a starter or a substitute, in 25 or more of their league games, with 1/1 the price that he plays less than this number.

Specials are also available relating to how many goals Lampard may score in the 2013/14 campaign, with 8/11 again on offer that he helps himself to 12 or more.
