New Spain star to usher in summer of change at Arsenal

After Arsenal failed to do enough to qualify for the Champions League quarter-final stage, it was confirmed that the Gunners’ trophy drought will extend to eight years at least.

And in reaction, Arsene Wenger finally appears ready to make significant squad changes this summer, and part with a substantial amount of cash in doing so.

His chief target is Malaga playmaker Isco, who is coveted as one of world football’s hottest young prospects.

The Gunners have a long-standing interest in the midfielder, with chief scout Steve Rowley distributing glowing reports to Wenger in the aftermath of numerous trips to see him play.

And whilst the Emirates chief would have to pay in the region of £30m for the 20-year-old, he may be willing to do so in order to land such a saleable future asset.

Newly-capped Spanish international Isco is thought to be coming around to the idea of a switch to North London too, after persuasive chats with former teammate Nacho Monreal, who joined the Gunners in January.

Isco is not the only player on Wenger’s wanted list however, as the Frenchman looks to utilise a £70m transfer kitty in the summer.

He also has a keen interest in Southampton star Gaston Ramirez, who has shown glimpses of his obvious quality since arriving from Bologna earlier in the season.

It is thought that Wenger feels such a technically gifted player would integrate seamlessly into his side, as he looks to ensure Arsenal’s silverware drought ceases next term.

And were the Saints to suffer Premier League relegation, it would make his task all the more easier to land the £15m-rated Uruguayan international.

Meanwhile, Wenger could be willing to oversee the departure of some of his current first-teamers, as he is believed to have grown tired of their underachieving efforts.

Wojciech Szczęsny and Thomas Vermaelen bear the brunt of his ultimate frustrations, and they could be offloaded this summer as Wenger looks to once again instil a winning mentality into his squad.
