Newcastle v Anzi: In-form Toon to dispose of poor travellers

Published:

Whilst Newcastle’s first-leg 0-0 draw away to Anzi was an incredibly dull affair, the result was extremely pleasing for the English Premier League outfit.

And with a more open game sure to materialise at St. James’s Park, the hosts can seal progression with victory in normal time at 6/4.

Newcastle’s form has markedly improved of late, with just one defeat emerging from the Magpies’ last six matches in all competitions.

They can build upon that by winning for the second time in a week, and in doing so conquering a team with no European away triumphs this term.

It looks wise to focus on the Toon in result markets with both teams to score too, considering an obvious trend that has emerged from their last few victories.

Of Newcastle’s last four wins, all have come with each team finding the net, and so that looks to have real chances of occurring again at 9/2.

Also, though goals have been hard to come by in the Magpies’ recent European outings, they have sharpened their attacking instincts in domestic matches of late.

Indeed, Newcastle’s last five league games have seen the net bulge 18 times, and as such, they make appeal as 7/2 shots to win a match involving over 2.5 goals.

It is also interesting to note the slow-starting nature of Alan Pardew’s side’s performances in Europe so far this season, meaning half markets can too provide fruitful betting opportunities.

The Toon have entered the break level in six of their nine Europa League games so far this term, and the possibility that they do so again before going on to win is attributed a 9/2 price.

They could welcome Shola Ameobi back into their starting line-up, and the powerful striker is sure to prove a popular first scorer pick.

At 6/1, Ameobi looks real value in this market considering the three European strikes he already has to his name this season.
