There’s only one Neil Warnock: Three memorable moments

Published:

Neil Warnock’s managerial career has spanned over three decades and he has entertained football fans along the way with his unique wisdom and wit.

Warnock revealed following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against Huddersfield that he is ready to call time on his eventful spell in charge of Leeds at the end of the season as the club’s slim play-off hopes in the Championship fade.

Whether or not the 64-year-old plans to continue as a manager or become a media pundit, Warnock can reflect on plenty of great moments down the years.

Warnock has won promotion with no fewer than seven different clubs as a manager, but on the flipside has also experienced relegation with boyhood club Sheffield United and Notts County.

As well as his skill in getting the best out of the sides he has managed, Warnock is known for his sharp tongue, which has often landed him in trouble.

Rants directed at referees, opposing managers, opposing players, fans and even his own players have made him a polarising figure.

As his time at Leeds comes to an end, many people are wondering what’s next for the plain-speaking Yorkshireman.

Warnock has been linked with the vacancy at Reading, but his age and failure to succeed in the top flight so far might count against him.

Here are some of Warnock’s finest moments on and off the pitch from his long career to date for you to enjoy.

Half-time harassment

During the 1994-95 season in which Warnock guided Huddersfield to promotion to the second tier, he gave his players what for in a memorable rant during a half-time team talk against Shrewsbury.

It worked in the end for them!

Offensive to sewer rats?

Warnock didn’t mince with his words when then-Blackburn forward El-Hadji Diouf allegedly abused Jamie Mackie as he lay on the pitch injured during an FA Cup match against QPR in January 2011.

Warnock then labelled him a ‘sewer rat’, but went on to sign him for Leeds! It’s a funny old game.

Cover your ears, lino!

Officials must dread being in charge of games involving Warnock, as this video proves.

Keep a look out for Warnock’s reaction in the bottom-right corner to his behaviour as Blades boss – the linesmen in these clips must still be having nightmares!
