Barcelona v PSG: Messi’s lack of fitness won’t stop hosts’ progress

Published:

Barcelona head into their Champions League quarter final second-leg against PSG as the big 4/11 favourites and should have more than enough to justify that extremely short price.

The only worry for the Spanish side is that Lionel Messi is a doubt following an injury from the first leg but, with Barca running away with the Spanish league, there is every chance he will be risked for this clash.

Even with the doubts over his fitness he is currently still the favourite to score first and can be backed at 2/1.

If Messi isn’t fit enough to take any part, Barca still have an abundance of quality players to cut open the French side and showed in a 4-0 win against AC Milan that they are able to put even the best teams to the sword.

With Messi missing for their weekend clash against Mallorca, Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez bagged three and two respectively showing that there are plenty of players who can find the net when Messi isn’t available.

However, PSG have also found the net regularly away from home in Europe this season, scoring twice in each of their last three trips away from Paris.

With Barcelona shipping goals at the Nou Camp against Celtic and Spartak Moscow this term, backing both teams to score looks tempting at 8/11.

Finally, with a low-scoring draw (less than 2-2) being enough to see Barca through and, because of their ability to keep the ball for long periods, backing the scores to be level after 90 minutes is worth a look at 7/2.
