Knock-out artist Garcia can add Judah to hit list
Published:Danny Garcia’s impressive fourth round stoppage of the legendary Erik Morales became his fifth consecutive victory over a current or former world champion.
Come April 27th, Garcia will be looking to add former undisputed welterweight champion Zab Judah to that list and it is 1/8 that he does so.
British fans will be familiar with both fighters for their contrasting performances against Amir Khan. Khan knocked Judah out with a powerful uppercut to the body in a bout which was believed to be a stepping-stone towards a fight with Floyd Mayweather for the Brit.
However, Garcia temporarily put an end to those aspirations when knocking Khan out in the fourth and casted further doubts over the durability of the Brit’s chin.
That performance evidenced Garcia’s (25-0-0 16 KOs) excellent capabilities as a powerful boxer-puncher, withstanding the early pressure and speed of Khan to land a crushing counter left-hook in the third before finishing him off in the fourth.
Garcia will be keen to dispatch this opponent in similar fashion in order to set up more high-profile fights.
However, this will be no formality against Judah (42-7-0 29 KOs) and the tricky veteran is 5/1 to become a world champion yet again.
The southpaw will most likely try to get in-and-out and work behind his slick jab. His impressive hand speed will need to be on point, as it was when landing a succession of impressive flurries against the previously undefeated Vernon Paris in his last bout.
Judah was in excellent shape for that fight and, at 35, the former champ proved he still has the engine to mix it in the middle and later rounds.
However, if Garcia gets on the inside and is able to land his left over Judah’s leading right, it could be KO number 17 for Danny Swift.
