Chelsea set to make massive bid for Man Utd’s Rooney

The summer’s big transfer saga has already been decided, with Wayne Rooney’s future the subject we’re all going to be talking about over a barren football-less summer.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Chelsea are favourites to bag the Manchester United striker, with the Blues owner Roman Abramovich poised to blow any other bid for the player out of the water.

The red top reckons that the Russian is determined to bag his man and show that he has the spending power to better anything that PSG (another of the sides interested in Rooney) put on the table.

Rooney has asked United for a transfer and the Blues believe they’ll be able to get their man for around £30 million. With Jose Mourinho set to rejoin them as well, there’s plenty of incentive for Rooney to head south.

It’s bad news for the frugal Arsenal who, according to several sources, have also been considering a big bid for the England international.

However, it could all be academic if United decide they don’t want to sell the player.

New boss David Moyes has made sorting Rooney’s future out his number one priority when he slumps himself in the Old Trafford hot seat and it offers him a big chance to stamp his authority on the club from the get go.

United and rivals Manchester City are both 15/8 to win the Premier League next season but, if you reckon Rooney will join the Blues along with Mourinho, then it may be well worth backing Chelsea to win the title at a pretty decent 11/4.
