Early trophy to boost Moyes’ chance of seeing out contract

| 09.05.2013

It is certainly a statement of confidence that David Moyes has been given a six-year contract at Manchester United and shrugs off any doubts over whether his job would be under threat should the Red Devils struggle in the first half of next season.

One of the main negatives pointed out about Moyes’ credentials is his lack of trophies, with a Second Division title with Preston remaining the only silverware in his personal cabinet.

Whether a manager should be judged on trophies or achievements based on resources open to them is a separate debate, but although no trophies may have been accepted at Everton, more of the same is unlikely to pass at Old Trafford.

Not including the Charity Shield, it is 5/6 that Moyes celebrates a trophy in his first season at Old Trafford and this would be a big bonus to his chances of seeing out his six years, which can be backed at 4/1.

However, it is 13/8 that Moyes never lifts the Premier League with Man Utd.

One thing that is a banker to be won is a game at Old Trafford, which is something that Moyes is yet to achieve in 11 previous attempts, while he will also be keen to rectify a record that has never seen him triumph against Liverpool at Anfield.

Moyes is unlikely to be allowed to spend megabucks in the transfer market, which is nothing new to him as he has actually made Everton money across the last four seasons.

But there is a strong possibility that Leighton Baines will follow him to Man Utd, given that the England left-back had already been on the radar of the Premier League champions in the past season.

Odds of 4/6 on Baines joining Man Utd this summer though is a price that is unlikely to tempt many punters, while 2/1 is not overly attractive either that Moyes entices Cristiano Ronaldo to make a return to the club.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
