Inexperienced Stubbs may be right for Everton to continue Moyes ethics

David Moyes may not have won any trophies in his 11 years at Everton, but he clearly brought a structure to the club and this is something that could go to waste if Bill Kenwright brings in the wrong manager to replace him.

Barcelona with Pep Guardiola are the prime example of a club in recent times that have enjoyed great success from promoting a new manager from within, while in England, Eddie Howe has worked miracles at Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, Liverpool enjoyed a raft of success in the 1970s and 80s through a chain of in-house managers running from Bill Shankly to Kenny Dalglish and passing through Bob Paisley and Joe Fagan in between.

If Kenwright decides to tread a similar path at Everton, then Stubbs would be the obvious candidate given that he is currently in charge of the under-21 side.

The next Everton manager betting points towards Stubbs being among the forerunners for the vacancy and he has been supported into 4/1 to be named as Moyes’ replacement.

Being born on Merseyside, Stubbs will know more than anyone the demands of Everton fans and he is well versed in the way the club is run, having previously played for them close to 200 times across two separate spells.

One of Guardiola’s starting strategies at Barcelona was to bring some youth he had previously worked with into the first team and he benefited greatly from his decision to promote the likes of Sergio Busquets and Pedro.

Stubbs would have similar knowledge of those ready to make the step up and bringing through youth players will continue to be of utmost importance as Everton are unable to compete financially with their fellow clubs starting each season with ambitions of finishing in the top four.
