Roma favourites, but Lazio hold the derby edge

This year’s Coppa Italia is sure to be a feisty affair, as city rivals Roma and Lazio meet in the Stadio Olimpico.

Just one point separated the sides in the final Serie A standings, with Roma edging out Lazio to finish in sixth place.

During the league run-in I Gialloross wrapped up impressive victories over Fiorentina and Napoli, plus a draw at Milan, whilst Lazio laboured home with just four wins in their last 12 as their Champions League hopes faded.

Roma’s form sees them installed as 7/5 favourites to win the match, and 4/6 to lift the trophy, while the Biancocelesti are 15/8 to win and 11/10 to lift the cup.

Both teams to score in the final is 3/5 and there’s plenty to suggest that could prove to be a rewarding punt, with four of the last six finals seeing both teams find the net, and both goalkeepers in the last four Rome derbies have been beaten.

The last match between the sides ended in a 1-1 draw with Francesco Totti and Hernanes both scoring from the spot; two men who may be worth backing in the First Goalscorer market in a fixture often decided on contentious penalty decisions.

Hernanes has now slotted home three penalties in his last four appearances against Roma, and is 7/1 to open the scoring in the final, while the talismanic Totti is 6/1 for a thirteenth goal of the season.

Form invariably goes out of the window in derby games however, and many might fancy Lazio to win having come out on top in three of the last four meetings with Roma – all by a single goal margin.

Vladimir Petkovic’s side are 9/1 to win 2-1, as they did in both meetings last season, and 20/1 to repeat their 3-2 success over Roma in November.
