Course and distance queens aid 20/1 Wimbledon accumulator

Seeing the likes of Laura Robson start off so nervously in her second round clash or Dustin Brown in tears after beating Lleyton Hewitt reminds us just how much the atmosphere at Wimbledon can drain a player’s emotions. For this reason our day six four-fold is relying on those who have experience at going far further in the tournament than the third round fixtures they’ll contest today.

Sam Stosur and Sabine Lisicki have been in no mood to be quibbled with so far, losing just 15 games between them across their first and second round matches and given Stosur leads the pair’s career head-to-head 4-1 she might be expected to make a decent fist of their third round clash.

However, the pair have met just once since 2009, when Lisicki prevailed on the Stanford hard court. Twice a quarter finalist and a semi-finalist here in 2011, the German can make her superior grass court smarts pay against Stosur, for whom reaching the third round here is a career best effort.

Na Li’s see-saw 6-2, 1-6, 6-0 second round defeat of Simona Halep is indicative of the capricious nature of the world number six’s focus-levels in recent tournaments and her opponent Klara Zakapolova is not someone who’ll let lapses go unpunished.

The Czech has taken at least one set in all four of the pair’s previous meetings, winning twice and has progressed this far without giving up a set. With both ladies former Wimbledon quarter finalists, a close match is expected.

Don’t let the fact that Tsvetana Pironkova is the world number 76 fool you, she can mix it with all but the very best at the All England Club. She’s reached the semi-finals and quarter-finals in 2010 and 2011 respectively and only failed to post a similar performance last year thanks to meeting Maria Sharapova at the second round stage, where she took a set off the world number three on her way out.

She’s fancied to prevail without losing a set against Petra Martic, having avoided doing so in winning their previous three career meetings.

Finally Dominka Cibulkova can take out world number 11 Roberta Vinci for the underdog backers, after the Italian advertised her relative frailty on grass in the previous round against Jana Cepelova, requiring a 9-7 final set to prevail. As a former quarter-finalist here Cibulkova has the weapons to cause an upset.
