Euro U21 Championships: back goals in Germany and Spain game
Published:Holland face Russia while Germany take on Spain in a couple of extremely appetising Sunday night clashes in the Under-21 European Championships.
Spain and Holland both won their opening games against Russia and Germany respectively, which means the latter two teams must win these games if they are to stand a realistic chance of making it through to the knockout stages…
Holland U21 v Russia U21 (5pm)
Russia’s tight 1-0 defeat to Spain bore little resemblance to Holland’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Germany in their opening Group B games.
Russia were outclassed for much of their Spain loss and never really threatened. However, the arrival of attacking reinforcements in the form of Alan Dzagoev and Fedor Smolov suggests that they should at least find the net against the Dutch – a victory looks a little beyond them though.
Meanwhile, Holland coach Cor Pot lamented his side’s inability to maintain a performance for 90 minutes against Germany. They conceded twice in the second half to run out narrow 3-2 winners and that leaky defence will be cause for encouragement for the Russians.
Backing Holland for the win at 8/11 looks the match bet, while a punt on Holland to win with both teams to score looks tempting at 27/10.
Germany U21 v Spain U21 (7:30pm)
Germany’s rousing second half performance against Holland wasn’t enough to see them fight back from 3-0 down, but it was certainly enough to give them plenty of confidence going into this game.
The Germans need to win and have promised to play a more attack-minded game this time out – a tactic that makes a punt on goals look the most tempting bet available.
With Germany set to give Spain space to play, a bet on over 2.5 goals looks pretty decent at 5/6.
