Hamilton and Rosberg fire Silver Arrows to the head of the grid

| 28.06.2013

The hopes of a nation rest on the shoulders of Lewis Hamilton in a race that hasn’t seen a home victor since the former McLaren man eased his car home at the head of the field in 2008.

The Mercedes man, who said he had been feeling uncomfortable with his car’s set-up over the course of practice this weekend delighted the partisan Northamptonshire crowd by constructing the perfect lap to place his car on pole position by a stunning 0.452 of a second ahead of team mate Nico Rosberg.

It was the first time that Hamilton had achieved the feat since the Chinese Grand Prix some five races ago, but as the heat continues to rise over the course of the weekend, Mercedes well documented problems in race trim could well return and halt the Silver Arrows when it matters during the race.

As a result, Hamilton is second favourite in the betting to take the race victory at 7/2, with team mate Nico Rosberg a 7/1 shot for victory.

Predictably, Sebastian Vettel heads the market for the win, however the German has gone four years without a victory at Silverstone and despite starting in fourth position last year , he could only muster a third placed finish. History suggests that the 5/4 on offer for a race victory may be a little short.

Better value could come in the form of another home crowd favourite, with fifth placed Paul di Resta placing his Force India in a career best fifth position. At 40/1 for the race victory, the Scot would be worth a small each-way bet o finish inside the top three.

Alternatively, Mark Webber’s potential replacement at Red Bull next season – fellow Aussie Daniel Ricciardo in Red Bull’s sister car Torro Rosso – may well also be a good each-way choice, and at 100/1 there is plenty of value in this selection.
