Juventus target troublesome Man City forward after Jovetic failure

Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez is Juventus’ second choice transfer target as they bid to bolster their front line this summer.

The three-time Premier League winning Argentine has one year remaining on his eye-watering contract at the Etihad and, should the Old Lady miss out on primary target – Montengrin flavour of the month, Stevan Jovetic – they are set to make a move.

Jovetic was set to seal a move to Arsenal before Arsene Wenger’s frugality forced him to balk at Fiorentina’s £30m asking price and, with Chelsea the only suitors who throw that sort of money with careless abandon, it looks like Juve are going to miss out on him too.

The Champions League quarter finalists have a typically Italian solidity about them, but in the final third they have been found wanting. This was exemplified through the consummate ease with which Bayern Munich dealt with their attacking threat over two legs in the last eight of this year’s tournament.

Tevez could be an affordable alternative to Jovetic and his belligerence and energy that compliments a sound technical ability perfectly would undoubtedly improve their attacking threat.

Juventus were one of the clubs he was linked with following his infamous spat with then City boss Robeto Mancini after he refused to come off the bench against Bayern two seasons back and, if he’s prepared to take a hit on his devastating wages, he could find himself employed by the Italian champions for next season.

However, should he depart England’s second best side, a return to his homeland must be high on his priority list. If this is what he intends, as he has voiced his desire to do with tedious frequency in the past, a move to Italy is obviously off the cards and this could explain Antonio Conte’s interest in Tevez’ compatriot Gonzalo Higuain.

With or without Tevez, City currently stand as 11/5 to hoist a second Premier League crown next term.
