Liverpool’s determination could lead to Suarez staying put

| 18.07.2013

Barely a day can go by without Luis Suarez telling all who’ll listen what plans he has for his future, but just recently it has been Liverpool who have been doing the talking.

Both managing director Ian Ayre and Reds boss Brendan Rodgers have been forthright in their view over Suarez in recent days, with the pair claiming that it will be they who determine the forward’s future and not the Uruguayan himself.

Arsenal remain the only club to have made an official bid for Suarez’s services so far, with Rodgers confirming that the £30m offer was “nowhere near” the Reds’ valuation of last season’s top scorer.

The Northern Irishman has also claimed that his 26-year-old attacker will remain a Liverpool player beyond the summer “unless something drastic happens.”

With Real Madrid and Chelsea also believed to be in the hunt for Suarez’s services alongside the Gunners, that “something drastic” still has a good chance of cropping up of course.

But the prospect of Suarez still being a Liverpool player come September 1st should also be considered too, particularly at a price of 9/4 with Ladbrokes.

Rodgers has been busy improving his squad this summer with the additions of Simon Mignolet, Kolo Toure and the Spanish duo Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas, and with plans for further signings also being made he won’t be in a mood to see the club’s jewel in the crown walk away.

With Suarez due to link up with Liverpool’s pre-season tour of south-east Asia and Australia before they face A-League side Melbourne Victory next Wednesday, an end to this saga could well be in sight.

But with the Anfield hierarchy refusing to be budged and Suarez’s suitors seemingly unwilling to match his club’s demands it could well reach a conclusion which the forward doesn’t welcome.
