Producer looks primed to deliver for Hannon at Glorious Goodwood

Published:

Glorious Goodwood is usually a happy hunting ground for the all-powerful axis of Richards Hannon and Hughes and the Herridge stables alliance is fancied to rack up a TV double on the first day of this year’s Glorious meeting.

1:55 Blue Surf @ 7/1

The highly progressive Whispering Warrior is a worry, but that one has gone up 8lbs for his most recent victory and a chance is taken on Blue Surf, for whom the softening conditions will be manna from heaven.

Just 4lbs above his last winning mark – achieved on heavy going – he’s also scored on good-to-soft and can do so once more returned to a shorter trip after running out of gas over 1m4 at Ascot last time out. With previous winning form at the track he’s guaranteed to handle the it’s famous undulations too.

2:30 Anticipated @ 7/2

Supplicant and Anticipated are very closely matched on their meeting in Royal Ascot‘s Windsor Stakes – where the former prevailed by a neck behind Extortionist – and it may be that the form is reversed here.

Goodwood is a tricky course for a juvenile to master and with the last four winners having at least four runs under their belts Anticipated’s edge in experience could be vital for a trainer jockey combination that have won two of the last four runnings.

3:05 Producer @ 9/2

Aljamaaheer is a worthy favourite on the back of two placed efforts at Group 1 level in recent outings, but the easing ground is a worry, with Angus Gold, racing manager to owner Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum, suggesting he’s unlikely to run if the going becomes soft.

It’s likely 7f ace and past Goodwood scorer Producer wouldn’t have been quaking in his horseshoes anyhow, having beaten him when the pair met over this trip at Leicester in April and in receipt of 4lbs from his rival he can confirm that form, registering his eighth win in 13 runs at the trip in the process.

3:40 Silver Lime @ 6/1

Roger Charlton’s yard have been mining a rich seam of form over the last fortnight with six winners and three seconds from their 15 representatives during that period. Ryan Moore is an eye-catching booking in the plate aboard Silver Lime who was last off the bridle when an easy winner on his first stab at 1m6f last time. Having gone in on good-to-soft ground previously, his backers shouldn’t be too concerned by changes in the going.
