Sebastian Vettel perfectly placed to end Hungarian Grand Prix drought

Now 34 points clear at the top of the standings and 1/6 to win the Drivers’ Championship, there won’t be much that is fazing Sebastian Vettel.

A fourth consecutive world title seems to be in the palm of his hand, but as he heads for the twists and turns of the Hungaroring in Budapest there will be a nagging doubt which pervades.

Vettel has never won in the Hungarian capital, but his showings on each of his last three visits show that a victory is surely within his grasp.

Finishes of third, second and fourth in the last three years show that, whilst a win may have eluded the Red Bull driver thus far, there isn’t a serious problem affecting his performance around the 16-turn circuit.

His win in Germany last time out made it four victories from his eight completed races this year, and back at the circuit where he began his Red Bull career in 2009 he is priced at a tempting 6/4 for his maiden Hungarian win.

In what are expected to be hot conditions, the new Pirelli tyres which Red Bull recently tested at Silverstone are sure to come under scrutiny. But Vettel is confident that both they and he will be up to the challenge.

“Hungary has some interesting memories for me. It was my first F1 race with the Red Bull family,” said Vettel ahead of the race.

“Let’s hope I can add to my memories by winning there for the first time before I go on holiday.”

There will be no breaks for the likes of Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen as they strive to catch up to Vettel. They and the rest of the field might find that they are a little further off the lead come the end of a Hungarian Grand Prix that the German hopes is a special one.
