The seventh hole could provide the ace opportunities at the Open

Such is the quality of golf that will be on show at the Open 8/11 for a hole in one looks an extremely attractive prospect.

While no one managed an ace in the 2002 Open at Muirfield, the Scottish course is no stranger to a hole in one, with it happening on both previous occasions it has hosted the British Major.

Paul McGinley in 1992 and Billy Andrade in 1987 both needed just one shot at the seventh and it is the same hole which provides the field with a great chance to gain the kudos of shooting an ace at this prestigious tournament.

The uphill 184 yard par three is challenging, as players often have to hit into the wind although the pin position and green gradient are not the most difficult on the course. With bunkers to the left and right of the hole, players are forced to go at the flag and if nailing their shot can often go very close.

However, it is not just the seventh that could potentially see an ace. You can expect to see several go close at the 190 yard 13th and the 186 yard 16th.

In recent years, hole in ones have been a regular occurrence at the Open. In 2012, Anirban Lahiri shot one at the ninth at Royal Lytham St. Annes while in the previous edition both Tom Watson and Dustin Johnson got down in one at Royal St. Georges.

In fact, with 19 hole in ones in the last 24 Opens held away from St. Andrews, 8/11 looks to be exceptional value.
