Just who is…..Arsenal transfer target Omar Abdulrahman
Published:While the furore surrounding Arsenal’s pursuit of Luis Suarez rumbles on, behind the scenes the Londoners have been trying to snap-up a far lesser known 21-year-old.
Omar Abdulrahman is certainly a name which roles off the tongue with a degree of pleasure. However, for Gooners who would happily sacrifice one of their three square meals a day just to see Arsenal finally secure a marquee signing, this is not the sort of name they would have jotted down on any potential shortlist.
If Arsenal are to make significant headway in their 11/1 rated quest to win a first Premier League title in nine seasons, then bagging a talent in the realms of Suarez’ ability looks about their only hope right now.
Nevertheless, despite already missing out on Gonzalo Higuain, Arsene Wenger being Arsene Wenger has instead opted to cast his net into more obscure waters, though a closer look reveals a player whose stock is definitely rising.
Abdulrahman or commonly known as Amoory is Saudi Arabian by birth, but after being talent spotted at the age of 15 by UEA’s Pro-League outfit Al Ain, he has since gone on to obtain Emirati citizenship and represented them at national level.
The gifted youngster soon caught the eye at Al Ain and in 2010 got his first taste of international football for UEA U20s at the Asian Football Confederation Cup, where he netted a penalty en-route to a quarter-final exit to Australia.
Subsequently Amoory’s career blossomed. In the following campaign 11 first team goals and 8 assists helped him on the way to being named the Pro-League’s most promising young player of 2010/11.
Playing as a classic number 10, the trickster went on to help land the UEA title the following season, and then caught the eye of many top clubs playing for the full UEA national side in the 2012 Olympics in London, earning him a trial at Manchester City as a direct result.
Despite no formal offer being made by the Citizens, Amoory’s crowning moment to date arrived in January of this year, when he was named the 2013 Gulf Cup of Nations player of the tournament in helping his country to glory.
