Solid Snodgrass can fire ambitious Norwich into top ten

Norwich may not have to rely so heavily on Robert Snodgrass’ goals from midfield this season with strikers Gary Hooper and Ricky Van Wolfswinkel coming in from Celtic and Sporting respectively, but the former Leeds man’s eye for goal could prove crucial as Norwich look to improve on last year’s impressive 11th place finish.

Snodgrass is the 6/1 third favourite behind the aforementioned pair to top the scoring charts at Carrow Road and while Chris Hughton works out a system for his new strike partnership the Scotsman will be expected to weigh in with a few strikes of his own.

The solid number 7 has been banging in free-kicks since his time as a youth player at Livingston and although there will be added competition for places this season Snodgrass can expect to improve on his six goal haul in 2012/13.

Hughton has bought well this year, with Leroy Fer snapped up at half the price Everton where willing to pay for the combative former FC Twente midfielder before a failed medical saw the move break down in January.

Promising England under-21 winger Nathan Redmond has also been enticed to East Anglia from Birmingham City, adding to a squad packed with experience and flair from England goalkeeper John Ruddy through to tricky Irish danger man Wes Hoolahan.

Hughton’s Canaries have a relatively straightforward set of opening fixtures to contend with as Roberto Martinez’s Everton travel to Carrow Road on the opening weekend before a trip to Hull and a home tie against Southampton.

Away to Tottenham on September 14th will provide an early test for the former Spurs coach’s new look side, but if they can rediscover the form that brought them eight home victories in the last campaign they have a real chance of breaking into the top ten at odds of 7/2.
