Verdasco to overcome Dodig while Lopez will dispatch Serra easily

| 26.08.2013

While Andy Murray prepares to defend his US Open crown, day one of the men’s singles at the US Open provides plenty of interesting betting opportunities including this accumulator which pays just over 7/1.

Fernando Verdasco v Ivan Dodig – Verdasco 4/7

Fernando Verdasco has never failed to progress past the first round at Flushing Meadows and the Spaniard is fancied to overcome Ivan Dodig. The Spaniard has enjoyed a good season so far, reaching the quarter finals of all three Grand Slams and gave Andy Murray a huge scare at Wimbledon after taking the first two sets. Dodig, who has failed to progress past the second round at the US Open, has lost five of his last eight matches and can only boast a 47 per cent success rate on the hard court this season.

Feliciano Lopez v Florent Serra – 3-0 Lopez 10/11

Feliciano Lopez retired due to injury the last time these two met at the 2012 French Open. However, the previous time they played, the Spaniard dispatched Serra in straight sets. That match came on the hard court and there is no reason to suggest Lopez cannot repeat that performance against the man who is ranked 180 places below him. Lopez enjoyed a decent warm up at the Cincinnati Masters, with an impressive win over world number 12 Kei Nishikori the highlight.

Santiago Giraldo v Carlos Berlocq – Carlos Berlocq 10/11

Carlos Berlocq has won his last three matches against Santiago Giraldo and the Argentine can inflict the Columbian’s fourth consecutive first round exit at the US Open. The two met as recently as March of this year at the BNP Paibas Open, where Berlocq came out on top 2-1. That match came on the hard court – a surface which Giraldo has struggled on this season having only won six of his 14 matches on the surface.

Robin Haase v Frank Dancevic – Robin Haase 4/9

Robin Haase has faced Frank Dancevic on two previous occasions, winning both matches 2-1. Haase performed with credit at Winston Salem with victories over Lukas Rosol and Adrian Mannarino and the Dutchman should be able to make it three from three against Dancevic. Dancevic had a difficult time qualifying and required a deciding set against two players ranked outside the top 150.
