Man City trying to tempt Januzaj away from Old Trafford

| 29.09.2013

Just when things couldn’t get much worse for Manchester United, their neighbourly nemesis Manchester City could be about to steal one of their brightest talents when the January transfer window opens.

Rumours are rife that City have eyes on snatching away Adnan Januzaj from under David Moyes’ nose, as contract talks between the player and his current employers at Old Trafford seem no nearer to concluding.

After a meteoric rise through the Man United ranks, the Belgian-born winger is reportedly locked in contract talks with the Premier League champions, though the under pressure United boss is aware that Januzaj’s head has been turned.

Moyes has already hinted that ‘external influences’ could sway the young player’s decision, while it could end up being a question of money, with neighbours City proposing to offer Januzaj £45,000-a-week should he decide to exchange red for blue.

With many fans already disgruntled with the way Moyes’ tenure has begun on the pitch, losing such a promising player to their bitter rivals would be a potential PR disaster for the Scot.

Three Premier League losses already have left the Red Devils eight points adrift of early pace-setters Arsenal, which sees the defending champs out at the wholly unfamiliar price of 6/1 with Ladbrokes to retain their 2012/13 crown.

Januzaj shot to prominence on United’s tour of Asia where his performances from out wide caught the attention of Moyes and their fans alike.

Since then the 18-year-old has come off the bench four times for the United first team this season, coming on at half-time to replace Shinji Kagawa in their most recent loss to West Brom and Old Trafford.

However, if Manuel Pellegrini has his way, Januzaj’s budding career may end up continuing to flourish across the city at the Etihad.
