Murray to make US Open quarters, but not without dropping a set

| 03.09.2013

Andy Murray is in action at the US Open and his match makes up one of four recommended bets from the remaining fourth-round ties to complete the men’s side of the draw.

Lleyton Hewitt to beat Mikhail Youzhny @ 5/4

Having already accounted for former US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro in round two, Hewitt is enjoying a real renaissance at present. The Australian will have his work cut out to beat world number 24 Youzhny who himself has seen off some testing opposition to this point, though a dip into their head-to-head record makes the 5/4 on Hewitt far more appealing. Hewitt leads the count 6-1, winning the last three in a row and the last two on hard courts.

Under 25.5 games in Novak Djokovic v Marcel Granollers @ 4/5

The only other time these two met was at the 2011 Australian Open where the eventual winner Djokovic dispatched Granollers 6-3, 6-3, 6-1. The Serbian arrives fresh as a daisy here after an effortless straight sets win over Joao Sousa, while Granollers was taken the distance for the third successive round. A swift passage to the quarters looks extremely likely for the world number one.

Stanislas Wawrinka to beat Tomas Berdych @ 2/1

This is the most evenly matched of the fourth round ties and promises to be a cracker, though it’s Wawrinka’s price for victory which is worth grabbing. The Swiss has not only won four of the last five meetings but possesses the court speed to prevent Berdych’s forehand aggression from dominating, which leads to frustration for the world number five. The Swiss has the perfect one-handed backhand to counter with also.

Andy Murray to beat Denins Istomin 3-1 @ 3/1

The 62 places separating these players in the rankings are in no way deceitful. Murray should prevail comfortably enough after dropping just one set en-route to this match-up, especially as Istomin was taken the distance in round three. However, when they met as recently as January on hard, Istomin took 10 games off Murray in the two sets so will be no pushover.
