Norwich v Aston Villa: Villains to make off with the spoils

Published:

Aston Villa are fast becoming a team which pick up their points away from home and Carrow Road proved fertile turf for the counter-attacking midlanders last season.

Home is where the heart is and all that jazz, but for Paul Lambert it appears he may have left his raspberry tart in East Anglia since leaving Norwich, as Villa Park is proving an uncomfortable abode for the Scot in the Premier League.

Just five league wins in the entirety of last season have been followed up with successive home defeats already this campaign, yet they inflicted a 3-1 loss on Arsenal at the Emirates on day one, before troubling Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Norwich, meanwhile, most definitely save their best for the Carrow Road crowd under Chris Hughton, taking a point off unbeaten Everton, before seeing off Southampton.

An intriguing contest awaits therefore, but more importantly, where to put your money?

Lambert’s inside knowledge and pacey attack were enough to see off Norwich twice last season, winning 2-1 in the Premier League and overrunning the Canaries 4-1 in the Capital One Cup, and they can do it again this time at 19/10.

However, do not expect the visitors to keep their sheets clean, having gone 26 Premier League games without keeping the opposition out, making the 3/4 on both teams to score veritable banker territory, while that necessitates an over 2.5 goals bet at 20/21.

One-man wrecking ball Christian Benteke pounced twice in three meetings last season, while Gabriel Agbonlahor’s brace ensured the points for Lambert’s side here in May, and the Villa front men are 6/4 and 5/2 respectively to notch anytime.

Worth noting also that neither side have actually been able to make it into the break in front this season yet, so the draw at half-time followed by the away win at 6/1 is another punt to be aware of.
