Sunderland v Man Utd: Red Devils to prevail in edgy contest

| 05.10.2013

This is a fixture littered with low-scoring affairs in recent meetings at the Stadium of Light and with the nerviness accompanying both Sunderland and Manchester United in the Premier League at present, it’s likely be tight again.

Having already alluded to the fact that United have nicked it 1-0 on three of their last four visits to Sunderland on this very site, it’s worth lauding a few resulting bets again.

A much needed win for David Moyes’ side is available at rather slim odds of 3/5, though the 1-0 at 7/1 provides a far stiffer tipple for the would-be punter.

However, the best bet of the lot could be the 13/8 on a straight-up win to nil for the visiting side when the game is beamed live by the Sky Sports cameras.

The Red Devils will have restored confidence with a well-earned point on the road at Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League before arriving on Wearside and despite heavy criticism for that loss to West Brom, they should prevail.

Sunderland showed gutsiness against Liverpool, but still lacked the necessary ability to retain the ball long enough to trouble the Reds greatly and United will almost certainly have the lion’s share of possession.

United to win and under 2.5 goals to be scored in the match at 29/10 looks a good shout too, especially as the last four at Sunderland have gone under the 1.5 total goals mark.

Meanwhile, another element to watch out for where Sunderland are concerned is their propensity to ship goals late in the game in the league, usually because they are trying so hard to get back into it.

Half of Sunderland’s 14 Premier League goals conceded have arrived in the final 15 minutes of their matches, so backing a goal to be scored after 75 minutes at 10/11 also looks a smart move.
